TANGOS CHAMBER:ASTOR PIAZZOLLA
Astor Piazzolla, brilliant, iconoclastic tango
musician and composer, has become a national hero in Argentina and a
cult figure for classical and jazz lovers worldwide, but only after a
lifetime of controversy and struggle. His only crime was to revitalize,
if not revolutionize, tango—to hear in the music possibilities that
others couldn’t, or wouldn’t, imagine.
He dared to compose tangos that were not for
dancing, tangos of such melodic and rhythmic complexity that both
worlds, classical and popular, would ultimately claim him as their own.
His music is unmatched; when we listen to it we
are obligated to question the roots and say, “This is Piazzolla”. It is
all about the “language” he created, which is unique and can be
identified as his and only his. With hetergenous and rebellious
elements (Jazz, classical music, experiments in sound) he produced a
unique music under the drastic pulse of his Tango.
During this season, the Trío de Madrid has been touring Colombia (Bogota, Cali, Santander
de Quilichao and Popayán) with an attractive programme of 20th century music devoted to
the Argentinean composer ASTOR PIAZZOLLA. A. Piazzolla’s work is a
musical milestone of the 20th century. The Trio de Madrid presents it
as a piano trio ,with original works and adaptations by his closest
associates. A Trío de Madrid production which represents an extremely
attractive proposal for the audience.
